双皮奶 | "Double Skin Milk"
It's a bit awkward for a name, but this steamed egg custard originates from Guangdong (Cantonese) and is said to be good for your skin 😳
On the phone yesterday, my Fujian Ahma asked me why I didn't already make it before 🙄 ok, I'm not sure I ever had it. I'm more familiar with ကြက်ဥပေါင်း, which is savory with ground pork.
it's 3 ingredients: milk, sugar, and egg. It's super easy to make. The result is a soft tofu/panna cotta like texture. The taste is a milk-ier, lighter taste compared to a richer egg custard tart, but it comes close!
I used these as a reference, but I used brown rock sugar, which my ahma recommends. She also thinks it tastes good with ice cream and bread (if I understood her correctly 😅)
