It's trope discussion Monday! What do you think about Modern AU fics? What makes them work for you? Can you recommend a fic that does Modern AU really well? 
@FandomChats Modern Au is not my favorite setting change AU, (that's probably space AUs) but it can be fun. There are some very good ones!
But also Modern AUs can feel very generic, with lazy worldbuilding. A lot of them are set in Placeless, USA (yes even many who's authors seem to think they are set somewhere in China)
So as a trope it really depends on the execution
@Forestofglory @FandomChats yeah I've stopped reading modern au's (as well as sub-variants like the college au or the coffee shop au) pretty much entirely due to the frustration of constant Placeless, USA for canons which are *extremely* not US based
