"Fitz" means "Son of" so a "Fitzwilliam" is the son of a william,

what do you call the son of a "Fitzwilliam"??????

@lapis You go by first names in these naming systems, so unless you're naming your son Fitzwilliam....

@coriander I'm just saying, if Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet have a son, can you call him like "FitzFitzWillism"?

I know the answer is "Call him something else that doesn't sound nearly as silly"

@lapis @coriander Fitzwilliam is implied to have been Darcy’s mother’s maiden name (which is why he has a cousin named Colonel Fitzwilliam, where its the last name) so I think we’re safely past the point where the the Fitz has independent semantic meaning?
