ph, neg, post covid

guess who apparently has dysautonomia now ? yup its me, yayy

ph, neg, post covid

I've started just randomly feeling symptoms of hypoglycemia (which I have an actual dx for) but the usual solutions weren't helping. Turns out what does help is salt + electrolytes

re: ph, neg, post covid

@gnomon @demimom oh yep hiiiii, dysautonomia is such garbage.

There's plenty of us around pounding electrolytes and salt and water now, sorry to hear of a new member of this awful club. I did a lot of falling over like a wilting flower with random autonomic functions deciding it was vacation time. I hope you're able to find your comfort zones quickly and get some relief!

re: ph, neg, post covid

@pamela @gnomon it is honestly the weirdest thing. I'll be fine! And suddenly *sleep mode active* or *blood sugar is out of office* and I had no idea this was a thing :blobcat_cwy:

re: ph, neg, post covid

@pamela @gnomon honestly though it really helps just knowing I'm not losing it or having a stroke

re: ph, neg, post covid

@demimom @gnomon right? I got really lucky and a friend who had been having post-covid chest pain passed on a cardiologist's recommendation to try Gatorade, which worked so well that I got curious enough to get more information out of that early on (I ticked a whole lot of those dysautonomia boxes for the first 6-8 months) and just knowing what I was dealing with helped so much.

re: ph, neg, post covid

@pamela I was curious if Gatorade helped, bc I have a separate condition that makes plain water burn my throat so that was gonna be uhh interesting, lol, having to drink water all the time

re: ph, neg, post covid

@demimom mmm yeah I bet! Gatorade is great and liquid IV is pricey but wonderful for my symptoms, at least. Probably irritating on throats but I like canned vegetable juice a lot as a potassium and salt supply when the sweet gets to be too much, tea or fresh fruits for the hydration. I have so many brothy soup recipes now... XD

I've found pretty much any way to get the water and electrolytes in is fine, but hitting them hard first thing in the morning and then just topping up through the day makes everything behave a little better. That morning dehydration is no joke.

re: ph, neg, post covid

@pamela @demimom i usually try to pre-empt the morning dehydration with a big glass of skratch’s hydration formula along with my meds, which’ll usually keep me going well enough to make it thru breakfast + accompanying hot bev

But yeah if I have to be up and functional straight off the bat (something i avoid even outside of POTS problems lol), morning electrolytes are definitely key
