I'm trying to eat less meat, and other lies I have told people and myself

food, non-veg

I don't eat land meat these days but when I was struggling with trying to make sense of what I could really get behind I used that one a lot. It is a lie, of course, which I finally had to confront, because let's be real, if I was actually trying, like at all, I would just cut it out entirely

Like, it's not hard to not eat meat, so don't pretend like you're putting in effort when you just want to indulge

I mean I get it, food is complex and peoples' relationships to it are multilayered. But also let's not kid ourselves

It is hard to avoid dairy, they sneak that shit into everything

I feel like this is all pretty basic stuff, although I also think that working in the food biz for so long my perception of what is like normal or basic or commonplace is probably like super weird to a lot of people

@pagrus these days even restaurants with relatively old meat heavy cuisines will have the little (V) around their 1.5 vegetarian items, so its easier to know but I do remember the old “well, its not marked either way but they dont *mention* any meat products in this beans & rice so thats probably my best bet—oh no these beans with definitely boiled with the ham bone, okay”

@Satsuma@glitch.cat.family for sure, it has been illuminating spending time in places with smaller vegan/vegetarian populations, and the options available for dining out there
