I like the tag #fandomFedi, so I'm going to use that in my discussion of the Mastodon instance that I want to see in the world.
I am one of those people who had a very good #tumblr page in the day, and I would like to bring some of that functionality here.
Since everyone has a different experience with #socialMedia and others I talked to apparently got either no engagement or too many porn sites, I am going to explain it in the hope that #mastodon and the #fediverse will let me make it. 1 of 10
In the video Why I am NEVER joining Mastodon, Eric Murphy said that by following the design of twitter, mastodon copied bad features such as infinite scroll.
Tumblr also has infinite scroll, but it has an option for paged scrolling. This makes an end to your feed where you have to push NEXT to go to a new page. This gives you natural stopping places, and allows you to search through your feed by pages. I can guess how far a post is and put the page number in to find posts there.

Paged scrolling minimizes some of the addictiveness of the media. It probably won't be an option in apps, because phones are small, but it could help counter the addictiveness of social media sites.
2. Make all types of media interconnected.
Here people will tell me that they already are on the fediverse. You can have #pixelfed images, #peertube videos, etc. but this interconnectedness is still very clunky in my opinion. Not like the #tumblr interface which asks what media you want to add. 3of10
For example,
if I post two videos in one post, I see the first one and not the second one.
Maybe this is just my instance, but that is what I see, so when I want to compare videos I need to make two separate posts.
Not a big problem, okay.
But if I want to add an animated gif, some instances show it by default, and some need onmouseover. On my tablet, onmouseover is hard to do.
Can I set default on? Anyone know?
That's what I mean by clunky.

@Rozzychan personally i’d just display images remained uncropped like tumblr but i get that it can be a lot to scroll thru if someones added a bunch to one post
however you *can* control which imagine is shown as the default portion! On the website for your instance, as well as many mastodon apps you can select the “focal point” which will then be centered/included anytime the full image isn’t shown (the web app just click edit & then drag the circle around, my app Metatext uses a camera focal point icon to indicate)
