if I'm going to keep finding reasons to read academic journal articles for fun, I'm going to need to come up with a System that works for me for organizing these things!

@Forestofglory @roland I have heard mention of zotero before and it is unaccountably intimidating to me! maybe this is the sign I need to figure it out

@soph_sol @roland I was intimidated for ages but it turns out to be pretty easy (Also lots of people in Jainghu Teahouse are familiar with it if you want to ask for help there)

@Forestofglory @roland thanks! I'm downloading it now and I think I just need to poke around in it for a while to figure it out, but I'll ask if I have any questions!

@Forestofglory @roland ok I've got it set up and added one article and it seems EXTREMELY cool! I do have a question though, which is that zotero recommends not manually adding files, but using the browser tool to add things. Is that just because it's easier for zotero to make sure it has all the right metadata that way? because I definitely have like, random pdfs on my computer that it would be handy to integrate into a system like this, and I doubt I have the links for where I got them anymore.

@soph_sol @roland I almost always just drag and drop -- I didn't realize that Zotero recommends otherwise!

That's way easier for when you already have a lot PDFs, as you said

Follow

@roland @soph_sol @Forestofglory definitely the PDF’s i grabbed with their browser tool have more complete metadata then the ones i added manually, but having those files in zotero with iffy metadata is better than having them lost on my computer imo

@Satsuma @roland @soph_sol that makes sense. Also since I'm not doing academic work the metadata being prefect is less important to me
