It's FanChat Friday! This week's prompt is: What do you think about the Hurt/Comfort fanfic trope? What makes it work for you? Can you recommend a fic that does it really well?

@FandomChats I've always found h/c to be like....perfectly fine. It's not a trope that speaks to me but there's plenty of good fic that makes use of the trope that I enjoy. But I think I don't even notice whether a fic is h/c or not unless it's leaning SUPER hard into the trope; it's just not a framework of thinking about narratives that is instinctive to me!
@soph_sol @FandomChats This is how I feel about it too. It's something a lot people feel passionately about so I feel like should care more one way or the other, but I don't
@FandomChats @Forestofglory @soph_sol i’m also in the neutral club — i feel like it’s such a broad concept that encompasses so many things that it’s difficult to have a firm opinion
fwiw, apparently if i go to the filter options for my ao3 bookmarks it’s in apparently the top ten for additional tags so i guess i’m technically in favor? but also not the first term that’d come to mind if i was trying to rec any of these fics so….
@Forestofglory @soph_sol @FandomChats yeah i’d put money on it, angst, and fluff all being tagged heavily enough to disproportionately show up in *most* peoples top 10’s
