Yesterday, for All Saints, I spent time cyberbullying the ACNA re: why they took Aelred of Rievaulx off their calendar of saints

Today, for All Souls, I'm cyberbullying straight Episcopalians re: the AIDS ghosts floating around in their nice progressive and affirming churches

(My church has an AIDS ghost floating around in it and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it, because there is no fun Pride float without truth and reconciliation for Father Whats-his-name)

the AIDS ghost in my church

I think his name was Father Tom. Most of the younger people in my church are recent converts from other churches that were more dogmatic/authoritarian, so we know less of the history of the church where we all ended up. I heard this from my friend Michael, who heard it from one of the oldtimers and told it to the Church Nerd group (in a "crusty old Midwestern WASP" voice)

Oldtimer: Father Tom went to New York a lot. We didn't ask what he did in New York. In 1987, he got back from one of these trips, and he was dead four months later.

Michael: are you telling me he had AIDS?

Oldtimer: I didn't say that, you said that.

My straight friend Anne: I thought he died of a "rare cancer"

Me: [gay judgment]

I was mistaken! This person is not our AIDS ghost. He belongs to a former Episcopal parish that joined the RCC instead of affirming LGBTQ people
