What do you think of the way "impact" is used in the following sentence? Is it acceptable in formal Standard English?
Construction at the First Street exit will impact traffic.

@grammargirl “have an impact on traffic” would make slightly more sense to me but the version you quoted sounds like pretty standard road agencies trying to minimize their wordcount as much as possible speech
