This is extremely worrisome, NGL. Because, if OTW's Legal Chair is super in favor of having AI in fannish spaces...what does that say abt that organization (including AO3?).
It's bad enough that there are ppl using AI to scrap fics and sell them elsewhere. And now to see a pretty strong OK from someone in Legal... It's not good. Not at all.

@Glittery did you see the non-apology they posted as a followup? https://www.transformativeworks.org/update-to-otw-signal-may-2023/
the swap from “OTW’s Legal Chair…” to “the opinion of one of our 900+ volunteers” is almost hilariously jarring
@Satsuma I did see it and ended up eyerolling so hard I almost gave myself a migraine.
It was so vague that they might've as well just posted a grocery list. Cuz it'd have had the same kind of worth in the end.
At this point, I'm split between the frustration at the glacial pace w/r/t to the many issues (of which this was the latest thing in a long list) and curiosity at what else they'll pretend to be> 1/2
@Glittery yeah they basically were just like “please don’t be mad, it’s not us who said the thing” without clarifying anything about what they actually think (let alone actually implementing policy)
And yeah at this this point the number of times they’ve glossed over issues or kicked the can down the road without actually doing anything, it’s hard to have faith that they’ll even try to fix things properly when a new issue pops up like this. It’s very frustrating, fandom deserves so much better
