I suppose I should make an #introduction, as well!

I'm a web developer living in a monument to man's arrogance: Phoenix, Arizona. I grew up with Star Trek and Star Wars, but later added a heaping dose of Fantasy to the pile. Then I "grew up" and thought adults don't do those things. What rubbish.

I love to make things when my brain allows it. I've been doing some #costuming / #cosplay for my daughter and myself. I'm also working on DIY #homeautomation. Outside of that, I'm focusing on a new homebrew world for #dnd and will hopefully be starting a new campaign with my players soon. In addition, I have a borderline unhealthy #ffxiv addiction, but am still a major casual.

Beyond that, who knows. Here's some tag vomit of other things I like: #ds9, #StrangeNewWolds, #lowerdecks, #wot / #wheeloftime, #battlestargalactica, #starwars (loving #andor too), #diy, #cad, #graphicdesign, #webdev

I'm still fuzzy on how the fediverse works, so if you can point me to an article or something to help me make the most of my time here, that would be fabulous. (I see a lot of cw and spoiler-type posts that wouldn't be flagged as such in my other online haunts. An explanation of that etiquette would be great, too)

Xoxo,
Nate

@TheNaate re your question about CW’s — the name is a bit over serious, which I think can throw newcomers, it might help to think of it a bit more like a “subject line.” It’s fine to use the them for stuff like comedic timing (setup the joke in the CW and then hide the punchline under it!) or just to keep track of that one ongoing thread you have on [topic]

as for using them as content warnings, yes most people try to be generous with their usage out of politeness! This varies a bit from community to community but most instances have rules for things that actually require content warnings (for tenforward.social it looks like that’s anything with sexualized or violent content & animated images that are flashing or rapidly changing) so I would start there and then look around to see what other warnings are popular in your corner of the fediverse to see if you’d like to adopt using them as well. Elilla has a good list, along with definitions of common abbreviations at the bottom of this guide to mastodon: wordsmith.social/elilla/a-futu I don’t CW everything they mention (eg. my CW’s for food posts are sporadic at best) but its a good starting place in terms of considering which ones you would want to use.

@Satsuma Thanks for the explanation. I was beginning to see that was the case for CWs. I'll read that linked post shortly!
