Like yes there is a real problem with social media companies hijacking their users' attention, choosing what to show (or not show) and otherwise manipulating timelines and visibility, but that's not the same as people like... posting and boosting on their own? On fedi software there is complete transparency for why a post is on a given timeline. It's called linear time, baby. Plus there are options to unfollow or turn off boosts for everyone or individually if it's not to one's tastes. This is the exact opposite of for-profit social media networks' shitty code taking user control away, and it's how things are SUPPOSED to work for people to take charge of their timelines and discoverability.

@ljwrites also: if you don’t like them you can just turn boosts off, either site wide or for individual people—so unlike most fediquette discussions, this one can be easily resolved without asking anyone else to change their behavior
