@pagrus do you fill in one of Daruma's eyes when you open the bottle and the other when you've emptied it?

@twistylittlepassages I don't know! Instructions are in Japanese

@pagrus well Japan Times claims that "Hiyoshiyo Goukaku (Certain Success) Daruma cider is blessed at Shizuoka’s Tenshin Shrine and claims to ensure students who buy it success in entrance exams." so maybe you should drink it while you do your taxes or something, idk

@twistylittlepassages I wonder if you get your money back if you fail your exams

@pagrus sometimes luck is not enough!

Kit Kat candies are also a popular gift for students taking exams. I guess the name sounds somewhat like the Japanese phrase for "you're gonna win!" so Japan has all these cool Kit Kat flavors it's hard to find over here (green tea is nice!)

@twistylittlepassages Oh I am familiar, I feel like a friend brought back some really unusual flavors but now of course I can think of any specific ones

@pagrus "In Japan, Nestlé has introduced over 300 different flavours since 2000,[49][50] including ginger ale, soy sauce, creme brulee, green tea, sake, and banana."

@twistylittlepassages @pagrus i’m so jealous of Japanese KitKats—it’s so hard to find flavored ones in the US and when you do they’re almost always boring (the somewhat confusingly named mocha + chocolate duo is decent as far as coffee candy goes, if you happen to spot them but. Also one of the least controversial flavor pairings for a chocolate candy possible)

@Satsuma @twistylittlepassages Not to be a parade-rainer or anything but almost all of them have dairy and I think palm oil, which is horrible for different reasons. So I have been avoiding them and a lot of other treats. I feel like I have seen some fun flavors at Nijiya in Japantown though
