@Satsuma one of my committee members at the beginning was like "this is very feudal. you have no autonomy. your advisor is the feudal lord, you are the peasant" 😂

@Cyborgneticz I’m trying to extend this metaphor to the rest of the committee now — neighboring lords who can boss you around even tho they don’t own your land??

@Satsuma yes! my advisor was there for 50 years, has an ethics institute named after him, and awards also named after him - so they all kinda follow him

@Satsuma The worst part of dissertating by far is the being dependent on my advisor for all things.
