Was recently reminded of one of the funniest-to-me archives stories in which a WWI pineapple grenade was found in and removed from the Mennonite Church USA's archives... ... in 2011.
SO close to being a centennial event.
"Rich Preheim, director of the church’s archives, said the ordnance was found in a box of items donated by George Springer, who had served with a Mennonite relief mission in France after WWI.
"He presumably came back with some souvenirs," Preheim said."
OK I HAVE QUESTIONS.
did the person collecting just say "hm, grenade" and keep going? did they think it was a model? IS THIS WHAT 100 YEARS OF BACKLOG DOES?
