Research shows that 30 years ago, you had about 17 minutes to escape a house fire. Today it's only 3 or 4 minutes.

@neauoire also implied though not explicitly stated is that the lung damage from inhaling smoke from synthetic products can be much more serious — not the way they were able to watch the wool fire from a relatively close distance without concern but were warned back from the polyester fire because of the ‘toxic smoke’
