@Cyborgneticz oh mood
probably unfairly snarky
@Cyborgneticz love thinking about the ‘privilege’ of being a non-driver as I cross a six lane freeway to get my disabled ass to the bus stop on the other side
I might just be mean
@Satsuma God America ain't shit for disabled people.
I do get a 'fuck you car driving assholes saying you can't operate without a car I've never been able to drive and I've gone across America' anger with non-disabled people who drive
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz yeah same — i’ve never had a drivers license, almost certainly never will (my diagnoses are borderline where its not medically advised but it would be legal to get one)
It’s been a pain in the ass at times, and I’m v grateful that the east coast generally has above average public transport by US standards
But also car owners beliefs about the necessity of cars is such a self fulfilling prophecy & it frustrates me so much
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz we have to tear up all the tracks & dump all our money into road infrastructure because America runs on gasoline 🙄
I might just be mean
@Satsuma 💯
Car culture is the root of all evil I swear
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz yeah i’m done with it
I might just be mean
@Satsuma we are saving a lot of money though.
It's kind of insane to me how much cars cost. Some of them cost as much as my medical implant which was 30k! Like what how
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz yeah theres all these students who buy cars *and* pay for insurance & gas and then on top of all that shell out $$$ for a parking pass on campus? I want to say their parents must be loaded but i’ve seen the kind of loans some of them took out….
Glad I never had to deal with that shite
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz right??? I mean I’d rather not have like six different transit cards in my wallet sometimes 😆 but I honestly love taking the bus/train places & it’s so cheap
Even the more pricy stuff like Amtrak NER still usually comes out ahead of the equivalent gas + wear & tear + parking fees
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz when the pandemic is over* I think I’m going to take the Crescent down to Louisiana again to visit my folks — it’s a long ass ride but it’ll be fun
Plus its probably easier than trying to take my meds & shit thru airport security
I might just be mean
@Satsuma yeeessssss.
Now that I have a job that pays a living wage I want to splurge and get a sleeping car on amtrak and travel down
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz it will be hilarious if we end up on the same train haha
I might just be mean
@Satsuma accidentally meet in the bar 😂
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz we can discuss whatever train reads we’re ignoring in favor of the view from the dining car haha
I might just be mean
@Satsuma spectacular.
I'm planning taking amtrak to and fro my graduation
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz ooh nice! When do you find out the date?
I might just be mean
@Satsuma I'm not sure. It's weird. So if I defend this semester, I'll graduate in the summer. I don't really understand the scheduling. Bureacracy.
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz sounds about right tbh
& i imagine the scheduling makes even less sense than usual this year
I might just be mean
@Satsuma for sure.
Im gonna see if my job will pay for the trip as professional development 😎
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz i feel like it should count haha
I might just be mean
@Satsuma same!
I want to bring my partner with me ofc so we'd buy a roomette idk if that'd fly but fuck it.
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz mhm well it still doesn’t hurt to ask I suppose! Maybe they can pay half or something lol
I might just be mean
@Satsuma something at least! I'm not too worried about it. That's a future deal
I might just be mean
@Cyborgneticz makes sense
I might just be mean
@Satsuma totally. It's kind of amazing to me how cheap transit is in comparison
