I mean why does "unmoderated" always mean "hateful fascist hellhole?" Why don't we hear anything like: "Oh no! The healthy and supportive dynamics in this space are out of control due to lack of moderation! Plus so many adorable cat pics!!"

@ljwrites i mean part of it is that unmoderated instances that don’t have obvious issues don’t get talked about
I used to be a member of one—it helped that signups were closed before the mods left & it definitely saw a much higher level of random unpleasantness on public posts as a result but afaik they still have a decent reputation w/fedi at large
