@welshpixie kinda amused by the prominent “now read: how much it costs to escape Eskom and load shedding for good” link at the end of the article, which sends you to an article on converting your home to solar
@Satsuma Yeah - I get email newsletters from them and they frequently bundle 'Eskom is in trouble' reports with articles on going off the grid - there was another link in the email for the cheapest ways to keep your internet online during loadshedding that has a bunch of links to UPSs in there :D
@welshpixie yeah i imagine pretty much anyone can afford to would be trying alternative power sources, etc
@Satsuma Yeah :/ We can't afford it, J freelances for contracts that last a few months at a time, I supplement that with my art and freelance transcription work, we never have much left over at the end of the month so can't save for big stuff like R83,000 (4500 Euro-ish) for a full solar system
@welshpixie which is why we have utilities in the first place, instead of expecting everyone to build their own private infrastructure!
@Satsuma Exactly! XD It shouldn't be on the population to provide their own power solutions because the utilities can't get their shit together XD
@welshpixie but also wow that all sounds really rough! I hope that the government is able to step up and work on finding a solution
