long ago in the history of our Nation, a group of Calvinists decided that celebrating Christmas was gauche. so they invented Thanksgiving, as a bulwark against there being too much Christmas. in our Northern Neighbour, this never happened, so they have too much Christmas up there

Like it didn't work but it make a valient effort stemming the tide of Christmas slowly starting earlier and earlier until it's starting in retail&advertizing in October or even before.
i mean Canada did invent a Thanksgiving but the goal was religious nationalism and not opposing Christmas, which was really their mistake
