i would feel worse about not being very reachable via search engine if search engines were good
@Lady "good" in terms of successfully performing as a tool to the users expectations or "good" as in morally/ethically/spiritually in the broad design-concept?

@Lady Yeah but everyone agrees with the first one and I haven't found many people who agree with me on the second one.
@gaditb well, i guess my stance is that a search engine that is trying to connect users to the most reliable information pertaining to their query is maybe not the best technology for meeting that goal in all cases, but it does have some advantages [particularly for niche queries with few results that might not be indexed in any other system] and it is not particularly problematic to participate in that information economy
but also search engines do not try to do that these days and now they are all participating in an a·i information economy instead, so
@Lady My actual position on search engines that I argue for (prior to recent developments) is "often useful, but shouldn't be a primary- or nearly-always- tool".
