trying to figure out why Christians in tech annoy me

when i see something like the Christianity callout in Chris Krycho's jj demo, it pisses me off. for a while i wasn't sure why; it's not just for the same reason that i dislike proselytic religions in general, because i've never had the same reaction to technical content by Jews or Muslims, and it's certainly not because i believe there should be no religion or spirituality in tech content as a whole. part of it is that christianity is a hegemonic religion that is currently in power in the region i live in, but even that feels kind of unsatisfying to me.

my current working theory is that these callouts tend to be imperative, like Chris's terminal header telling me to "Glorify God." this brings up tons of negative associations for me, as well as just triggering my "don't fucking tell me what to do" reflex.

ultimately i don't think this is a productive thing to feel, but it's something i'm going to continue to interrogate because i think it's worth understanding my own mind as much as i can.

@akjcv there is absolutely nothing less Christian than computers so for me i think it’s just cognitive dissonance

Christian take re: trying to figure out why Christians in tech annoy me

@akjcv if you Glorify God you should be spending time in His Creation not sitting around all day in a numbers land of your own invention trying to teach rocks how to think

what aspect of God are you glorifying there, exactly?

@Lady I'll have to take your word for it but this makes sense to me lol
