But they never cite anything so I just assume they're talking out their entire ass

The basic argument: prevalence of cheese in Europe meant female sheep were more valuable, which meant male sheep would be slaughtered in the winter to save on having to feed them, their skin was turned into vellum, which wrinkles, so heavy book covers were used to keep it lying flat

Could be true! I have no idea, though
