You know, when the Enhanced Editions of the first two Baldur's Gate games came out, people got pupset because there's a trans character who just happily provides that information to the player unprompted because that's how cRPGs were written back then and Beamdog wanted to try and mirror that while also updating the games and adding some representation

The claim was that nobody acts that way, it's weird for this random merchant to tell you her whole life story and how she's trans

Anyway now people are mad at how the BG3 companions are written because they DON'T just reveal their entire life story the first time you click "Tell me about yourself"

Can't fuckin please nobody

And, like, yes, a lot of people were pupset just because the character was trans, I don't mean to gloss over that fact

But even being down with there being trans characters in a D&D game, the writing really did feel a bit off in that scene

@coriander “You pitiful fool. You sad excuse of a human being. You will never reach my level. When I was born, my parents thought me a boy and raised me as such. In time, we all came to understand I was truly a woman. I created my new name from syllables of different languages. All have special meaning to me, it is the truest reflection of who I am.”

@coriander you can get away with anything if you just have the trans character start out by saying “You pitiful fool. You sad excuse of a human being. You will never reach my level.” game studios are just afraid to employ this trick for some reason
