@heals @tamitha this isn't possible currently because the search indexing flag doesn't federate. we really need upstream to not mess this up or else we basically have to introduce a new, limited-discoverability flag and also stop federating the old one for people who don't want to be indexed.
my guess is eugen is taking this strategy because he knows that many instances are on outdated versions of the software and wouldn't be discoverable under a new flag. so he's keying it off of something they're already using. which is really nefarious, imo
@Lady @tamitha I mean, it pretty much sounds like it.. why introduce a proper flag that would limit the reach / applicability of a new feature if you can piggy bag on an existing option and pretend the meaning of that option extents to a new full-text indexing without warning or asking extra consent. That alone would be a GDPR nightmare over here in the EU.
How got that PR actually reviewed and included as a good idea?
As for the “we really need upstream to mess this up”.. that's a request that in reality never happens as far as my experience with any community run project of that scale goes (sadly).
