Posting a video of myself dog-earing a page to tumblr just to feel something

I'm a Reader, I guess, I love books, I love stories, I love reading, my bedroom looks more and more like a weird library every day, and for a LONG time I equated the books themselves, the physical objects, the paper and ink and glue, with the stories or information they contained

They are not the same

Stories are so useful and important, they are foundational, I believe, to the human experience and books are excellent ways to keep those stories around

But books themselves are not sacred

Follow

@coriander well the book you get from the store isn't sacred but the notebook that i got from goodwill whose first ten or so pages were the rules and regulations for some thieves' guild written in a middle schooler's handwriting is something

@Lady Okay, yeah, that one might count as an Artifact

@coriander what i actually believe though is that objects gain souls through their interactions with people and you can apply that to books how you will

@Lady Yeah, I'd agree with that at least mostly I think

This is why I often prefer to buy used copies of books

I'm sure I've told you this one before, but my favourite book in my library is a collection of Samuel Taylor Coleridge poetry that is just covered in notes written in at least 3 different hands

THAT is a book with a soul
