getting frustrated enough with the default macos experience and the app ecosystem that i'm tempted to pick up swift just to write my fuckin own things.

it's annoying because it seems like i can either pick seamless shell integration XOR avoiding proprietary software annoyances (monthly subscriptions, deliberate annoyances to pay to remove), and i have already gotten so spoiled by the parts that are really seamless

@KitRedgrave what are some things which are frustrating you?

@Lady finder does the wrong thing with archives, i expect to open it like another directory but it just unzips it and dumps crap everywhere.

i ended up trying commander one, which does do what i want but comes with the very annoying quirk that the directory view (but not the rest of the ui!) is completely oblivious to system dark mode and it's a premium feature to change it to match everything else. and that annoys the fuck out of me, because i otherwise would've been willing to pay to get the other features that looked really nice, but now i feel disrespected and spiteful

@Lady it's even more frustrating because apparently there was an app that gave finder the ability to look into archives (exactly what i wanted), and it got abandoned!

@Lady turns out i could fix the dark mode thing by manually flipping the colors around, but that just seems like a petty thing to charge for
