I didn't say this in the moment because I didn't want to subtoot-ish not-exactly-but-kinda-dunk on @essentialrandom (especially for something that, like, they had no particular reason to know) so soon after they got here,
but,
Seeing somebody be like "wtf I can't believe the official mastodon client has Feature X but not Feature Y", ...
and noticing that Feature X is a never-merged (and never even proposed to be merged) original ~2017 GlitchSoc fork addition that I remember when it was coded...
it's just, like, oh DANG! It's WORKING.
@gaditb I need context about GlitchSoc to understand this, I feel like. But also I'm here to be proven wrong in a way. I haven't had the chance to put it anywhere yet, but I've coined the saying "strong opinions, gladly challenged" for myself and, well, yeah.

It just made me very happy to see.
@essentialrandom GlitchSoc (the codebase -- https://glitch.social , started and initially run by glitchmother @bea ) is a fork (the first major fork?) of Mastodon that was just... FUN and kitchen-sink in its approach. Things like local-only toots, or autodeleting toots ( ephemeral.glitch.social. The specific time toots lasted until they were deleted depended on the current phase of the moon.), or tweaks to displaying long posts, or well, like "hey y'know what would be fun? If we put a PAINT program in here!" just getting hacked in with wild abandon.
@Lady was more involved and has better memory and can say a lot more, I think. (Also, like, Nightpool. But they're not here as much and haven't interacted with you as much so I'd feel weird @-ing them about this out of the blue.)
... I miss Bea. (She... left, a while back. exhausted. I don't remember what in particular exhausted her. I feel like I should, and feel bad that I don't.)

bea and i both scaled our fediverse presence way back in 2018 because we had a mutual ex with a very large following who was not handling the breakdown of those relationships well. in my case, i stayed on and just stopped trying to be Popular; bea left entirely because the fediverse had stopped bringing her joy
part of that was people being Weird in her mentions, like, annoyingly lewd or horny, which used to be more of a problem on the fediverse than it is today
@gaditb @essentialrandom i actually wanted to add a pictochat feature originally where pictos could be cloned and doodled on top of (if you remember pictochat you know what i'm talking about) but that never happened and this is as close as we got
