learning toki pona literally just to understand the other half of violet's posts

It seems like a fun and interesting conlang but also the philosophical underpinnings of it, this idea that speaking a language with a tiny vocabulary with somehow help you with your mental state, is just so absolutely bogus

@witchfynder_finder learning a small, esoteric invented language with a small number of very nerdy speakers will not help your mental state but it will help you write poetry that only a handful conscious entities in the history of all time will ever be able to understand

@witchfynder_finder people emphasize meaning and thinking too much and the difference between languages is more like the difference between watercolours and pastels

you can paint a fucking boat in both of them but the AESTHETICS are different; artistically, toki pona is like a very particular set of paints and brushes and the corresponding techniques, which can have aesthetic value beyond just their ability to express concepts

personally? i have zero interest in learning this entire set of niche painting techniques for this niche art club that most people will never have access to. but it’s not without merit in its own way
