mastodon question

When you reply to someone else's post, is there a privacy level that will not put the post into your followers' feed, but will leave it visible to anyone reading the responses to the original post? Do unlisted replies show up in followers' home feeds?

Use case: sometimes I want to reply to someone, and I don't necessarily mind other people seeing my reply if they're reading the conversation, but I also don't really want to put my reply on the main feed of everyone following me

mastodon question

@emmajuettner i think (and i could be wrong) but i think that replying to someone won’t slap the reply onto your main feed, and it will only be displayed to your followers that also follow the person you replied to.

and it does that regardless of the privacy level (i THINK)

mastodon question

@foccs @emmajuettner exception: your followers also follow the person you are replying to

mastodon only shows replies in feeds if a person follows both the poster and the person they are immediately replying to

the assumption being that if they follow both people involved, they *are* already reading the conversation on account of the original post(s) being in their home timeline
