The thing about Harry Potter is that it got soooooooooo many kids into reading that it's a generally good thing, IMO.
The issue is the author who we should simply ignore forever or perhaps dump into a well. Maybe steal the book instead of buying it and ignore the remake TV show.
Alternatively, it lead to a ton of young reader books that are really fantastic, so just read those. If your kid wants Harry Potter, give them The Mysterious Benedict Society instead
Give them Series of Unfortunate Events!
