@cam in physics and math, (and maybe other fields as well, but I can't speak to those), a lot of these things are named retroactively and don't always actually attribute the phenomenon to all of the people actually responsible for its discovery

I'm starting to suspect as I get older that this as deliberate myth making to venerate the specific types of mathematicians and scientists that western academia is good at making, and discarding the immense amount of research done by graduate students that makes all of this possible
