Riverdale S1:E02 talking a little bit about Statutory Rape in the real world legally.
the episode is called TOUCH OF EVIL
I'm gonna pretend it's in reference to Archie's once again STATUTORY RAPE but lmao it's not of course
FYI, there are some laws in some US states, dunno if they're universal in the US, dunno how it is in other countries. Called "Romeo and Juliet" laws. Basically, if one of you is under the state's age of consent and the other is 2 years or less older than you (and of the age of consent) it's not considered Statutory Rape. We don't know where Riverdale is placed (I always assumed New York or Vermont) just that it's relatively close to the Canadian Border. So maybe they don't even have this law on the books. ANYWAY.
Archie is a Sophomore, and Rapist!Grundy got like a degree at Julliard. Unless she is like the Doogie Hauser of Music (Nannerl Mozart but actually allowed to pursue it?) There is absolutely ZERO way this is NOT statutory rape except that we like to pretend that's not a thing for boys and it really bothers me
Rant over probably
Riverdale S1:E02
I'm am like 95% sure that there is no WE in "We could go to Jail" Ms Grundy.
I think it's only you. I really don't think Archie would serve time (or maybe he'd be stuck for like a day as a "lesson" that some small-town places like to do to show they're "friendly").
This is 100% about you.
Riverdale S1:E02
Look I get that Veronica and Archie hooking up when Veronica (and maybe Archie?) knew Betty liked him.
But if Veronica HADN'T done 7 minutes in heaven like they were 13, Cheryl was going to do it which I think would have been worse?
Like even assuming we go with the show's canon the Cheryl is a lesbian (though weirdly incestuous with Jason Blossom like I'm watching goddamn Utena) maybe nothing would have happened but as we know Betty left long before V and A left the closet. So I assume the optics of Cheryl would be worse
Riverdale S1:E02
The funny thing about this show is, I feel that most if not all of the cast are genuinely good at acting they are just given this show to work with. And I don't know how to feel about that.
I mean if I had to pick a favorite (Besides Cheryl stealing the show) it's probably Lili Reinhard like with that scene first episode of her squeezing her nails into her fists so tight they bleed and then giving a compassionate answer to Cheryl because that's The Right Thing to Do ™️
I know she's the lead in The Love Hypothesis. Haven't read the book it's based on (or the original Reylo Fanfic) but I'm sure she'll do a good job regardless of what the material is.
Riverdale S1:E02
Ok no Cheryl is being a (shitty) detective but I still like the idea she's hitting on Betty
like on SEX ARCHIE (the Riverdale Recap podcast) there was this theory that Betty had DID and that "Dark Betty" was Polly.
I kinda like that better than actual Polly IIRC.
But I haven't watched this season in years so I might be wrong.
Riverdale S1:E02
I hope Betty's Mom is not using White Sage* to smudge Betty's Room but seeing how weirdly unhinged and selfish she is, she probably is
Riverdale S1:E02 I'm making a political joke while complaining about student lounges
why do THEY get a lounge in their high school?
Admittedly I went to a poorly-funded school but we didn't have a lounge not even a just-for-seniors lounge!
It's unfair
Vote me for President and I will 1- force teaching phonics for reading 2- abolish No Child Left Behind if it's still a thing 3- Mandate every high school must have a student lounge by 2030
Riverdale S1:E02
I do not want Jughead talking about burgers when people watched episodes for quite a while waiting for him to eat a burger (it's hard to reshoot eating a burger so that's why he was always eating fries)
Fake Jughead (not even talking about this Jughead not being asexual, that's not the actor's fault, I hear he pushed for it)
Riverdale S1:E02 with a bit of BONKERS
lore
I have never been to a Pep Rally I always assumed they were just school affairs (in like, the auditorium) and that adults didn't come to them
Was I wrong?
(I literally have zero context for this. One of my sort-of friends in high school wanted me to join cheerleading with her, and I was like "uh I'm fat and not acrobatic or flexible I can't do any of that shit" and she was like "no it's fine for wrestling you just sit on the bleachers and clap a lot"
my mother forbade me seemingly worried I would become a Snotty Frigid bitch cheerleader like in one of those old films. So: not kidding when I say I've never been to a Pep Rally. I don't think I even went to any football games in high school but I can't remember)
Riverdale S1:E03;
Gotta say admittedly I have read no Truman Capote or In Cold Blood
but Jughead writing a novel about Jason Blossom's very recent death and murder (that at this point is unsolved) feels like it's in bad taste.
maybe not as bad as the shit Betty's mom is doing at the Riverdale Register but tasteless.
I don't really like true crime podcasts but I also can't cast any stones at people who do, because I have my series of vices (I like hearing about VERY historical murders as in "These people literally physically couldn't be alive today even if they weren't murdered" like Marie Antoinette or the Romanovs or whatever)
Riverdale S1:E03;
Okay Luke Perry I mean Fred Andrews the thing is... I GET what you're saying about Music but even if Archie sucked shit at music let him at least play music in high school
and once again: Football doesn't lead to colleges that leads to business school it leads to Traumatic Brain Injury. Your path isn't very realistic either....
Riverdale S1:E04
Once again: Yes it IS a forbidden Romance technically
but Archie is being STATUTORILY RAPED and presumably Groomed!
Like yes I'm sure Betty is hurt by this because she's a teenager who isn't recognizing it for what it is (Because no one EVER recognizes that for boys and I find that REALLY fucked up tbh this is a really good example of how the patriarchy hurts men too) but rn I'm like "Who tf CARES how Betty feels* when it's Archie who is being toyed with even if he doesn't recognize it
Riverdale S1:E04
Okay Veronica I'm no expert (as I haven't been to a drive-in since childhood) but among other things a drive-in theater would have (which I suppose to be fair Netflix and Video on Demand have)
You don't have to smuggle in snacks, you can just.. have them
If you're someone who wants to use your phone to live-toot your movie, you can presumably without ruining the experiences of others
Riverdale S1:E04
I remember loving the Joachin sideplot (specifically Joachin / Kevin) but Kevin has to be kept perpetually miserable for some reason* so of course this ends badly
Riverdale S1:E04
also I get what Archie is saying (With ellipses! a bad sign) that Betty was trying to help but...
this didn't blow up because Betty was "Trying to help". This blew up because Alice Cooper has no concept of boundaries and reads her daughter's diary (I suppose to be FAIR she did find a poorly-hidden gun in Betty's room. WTF betty? you presumably know your mom does laundry at least hide it under your bed)
re: Riverdale S1:E05
@wallhackio it was either this or back to "Is She the Wolf"
