@coriander critiquing my Beloved Thing is one of my favorite pasttimes
No one has talked more shit about Battlefield 1 than me
@wallhackio 🫵 normie
@coriander wrong I am objectively autistic
@coriander WHAT THE FUCK
@wallhackio Technically I play Forza Horizon, which is different
Plus I also play EYE Divine Cybermancy
@coriander eurojank is refined taste that is acceptable
@coriander also I think The Long Dark is one of the best games ever made which means I have objectively good taste
@wallhackio Have you played Pacific Drive?
@coriander it's on The List
@wallhackio You should play it, it's really good, it's got good Sicko Potential
@coriander @wallhackio Uh the real sicko potential is in playing Mother 3 again since it's 20th anniversary is coming up
The real enemy is Capitalism
@coriander @wallhackio seriously though you two are on such a high level of discussion I can't keep up and I wanted to applaud 👏 👏 👏
@wallhackio @coriander Dear Dr Clod, I just recently bought The Long Dark.
What should I know to have a good experience? (I've played less than an hour so far.)
@rockario @wallhackio You should have a good advantage, being Canadian
@rockario @coriander I don't recommend the story mode I thought it was very bad.
I enjoy the experience of fucking around and finding and don't mind extremely harsh punishments for my mistakes out so jumping straight into survival mode without looking up anything was a transcendent experience for me. If you prefer a little guidance then watching some of Zaknafein's advice on YouTube would be good (his various "10 tips" videos are really good for gitting gud)
Otherwise, prioritize shelter, then fire, then food in that order. Use death as learning experience, it will happen to you. Weapons are the best way to get long term sources of food since you can hunt, and find the spotting flare if you can it's a get out of jail free card for any wildlife encounter
@wallhackio @rockario It's a classic case of Losing Is Fun™
@coriander @rockario also in Joseph Anderson's video titled something like "three alternatives to no man's sky" or something like that he has a section on The Long Dark and his description of the game will make it very clear to you whether or not you will like the game (I bought the game because of that video)
Pixel a Day's video on Subnautica, The Long Dark, and the sublime is also, fittingly, a sublime viewing experience
@wallhackio @rockario Back when Joe Anderson was still an actual game critic and not a hack
@coriander @rockario why do you say he's a hack?
@wallhackio @rockario In hindsight a lot of his "critiques" turned more and more into just summarizing things that happen in a game without ever engaging meaningfully with the games either mechanically or narratively. There's the entire debacle around his Witcher videos, which, honestly, weren't even very good unless you like a lot of racist jokes made under the guise of sarcasm and "elves aren't real so it's okay." He's just burned so much good will and his videos don't hold up.
@coriander @rockario I lost a lot of respect for Anderson when he spent five minutes of a review defending Joel's final decision in The Last Us
@wallhackio @rockario Oh gross I didn't know he did that
@coriander @rockario what's frustrating with Anderson is that he's still good at critiquing games when he approaches them mechanically. But whenever he talks about story or themes I kind of want him to just stop talking please
@wallhackio @rockario This is why I just watch NCG instead
@coriander @rockario based
@wallhackio @coriander Sick, I think that's my plan. As well as picking random start locations because I don't know what's where.
I already feel like food is gonna take some learning, because hitting a bunny with a rock and then snapping its neck is currently: heartbreaking.
@coriander YOU LITERALLY PLAY FORZA
