i think metric lyrics might be less compelling now that i'm not depressed

@alyssa I think some of the earlier stuff is just the usual indie rock angst ("Gold Guns Girls"), and there are some where it's more of a "yeah things might suck but we can still have a good time" ("Dead Disco"), but more recent songs have been somewhere between pure melancholy ("Doomscroller") and upbeat but depressed ("Now or Never Now"). Either way at this point, I think "Victim of Luck" probably answers your question.

@alyssa Still wish they'd rerelease Plug In Plug Out though.

@aschmitz @alyssa physically bodied hearing "gold guns girls" referred to as "early metric" 👵

@aschmitz @alyssa i think the album after that one ? (the one with synthetica) was where i stopped keeping up

@xsssm @aschmitz synthetica was the album after that and had synthetica on it, yup. :P but yeah, horrifyingly, fantasies is firmly located in the first half of their discography nowadays.

@xsssm @alyssa Sorry! You can swap in "Monster Hospital" too, for that matter. (I don't honestly remember much of Old World Underground off the top of my head except "Combat Baby" and it's more the sad style there so I didn't want to use it as an example of general indie rock angst, though it might qualify.)

@alyssa youre not even listening to her more depressing side project!!!! (emily haines and the soft skeleton). metric is the party bops
