having to remind myself that a british writer writing a fic set in the US in their native dialect is every bit as reasonable as it would be for someone to write such a fic in, say, spanish

presumably people from other anglophone countries frequently have this problem with usamerican authors of fic for media set in their countries

now i'm imagining someone from spain writing a los simuladores fanfic and using the word "coger" in a very non-argentinian way.

explaining the joke, sex mention

"coger" in spain means like "to take", "to grab"
in argentina it means "to fuck"

to be clear it is also perfectly reasonable for people from spain to write los simuladores fics in their native dialect. it just has the potential to be really funny also.
