Godzilla Minus One, spoilers fish do not read

good movie. I think it had.... too much of a "happy" ending. But it was a lot more, put together in terms of, here are some relatable identifiable characters. I also feel like Noriko should have had a bit more development, it felt like she just kind of "died" to fuel the main plot a bit too much?

And then the only other thing that bothered me was what was Godzilla's motive. Like they say it repeatedly targeted Tokyo, like it was heading there for some reason, but.. then what. And then like, why does it want to eat eat trains. It feels like Godzilla was actively on a rampage to make Shikishima miserable.

@The_T i would have to watch it again because i’m not entirely convinced of this read, but i remember godzilla appearances always being juxtaposed against the state not giving a shit about the people; to me his reason fur being in the movie came off thematic, a manifestation of the inner monstrosity of japanese leadership

@aescling I didn't get that vibe at all, I don't think the Japanese government played that much of a role in the film.

And either way, that's the Doylist reason, which I am fully prepared to believe was "to make Shikishima miserable/feel maximum regret".

But I want to know what the Wattsonian reason is.
