Why do I have so much trouble carrying a 10kg computer? Do I just need to exercise more?

(The manual says it's 10kg, I've no scale to weigh it on)

@vaporeon_ me: converts that to pounds so I have a frame of reference

me after: I have no idea what weighs 22 lbs, I have no frame of reference for this

@The_T @vaporeon_ that’s more than heavy enough to require effurt, especially if you don’t exercise much

@aescling @vaporeon_ I don't exercise at all.

But unfortunately for frame of reference the only scale I have is too small to weigh, like, my computer on. (it's a kitchen scale.)

@The_T @aescling If we're talking about groceries, have y'all ever carried bottled water? 6 x 1.5L bottles of water would be 9kg, not counting the weight of the bottles themselves. I can carry it home (a very short distance), but I hate it all that time

@vaporeon_ @aescling hmm, yeah. Over here our cases of water are usually more than 6 bottles, usually like 20. And I feel like that still weights less, or maybe close to, my computer.

@vaporeon_ @aescling nah. I mean, you can find that, but, like.

Okay no you're right they are smaller.

Yeah this isn't far off in size, 12 vs 9 liters I think

@vaporeon_ @aescling I can't even tell, are these bottles smaller than the usual ones I'm thinking of? it's so hard to tell from the picture

@The_T @aescling 500ml would be a small bottle

But 24 of them would weigh 12kg (it's a very nice feature that 1L of water weighs exactly 1kg)

@vaporeon_ @aescling stupid question: is that true for most liquids, like, 1L of soda also weighing 1kg? maybe? idk

@The_T @aescling I genuinely don't know, but I would assume that a soda is mostly water (with added sugar, flavourings, carbonation, etc.), so its density would be similar to the density of water and so the weight would be approximately similar

Follow

@vaporeon_ @The_T a typical coffee is about 98% water; i feel like soda is purrobably in a similar situation

@vaporeon_ @The_T hmm. a liter of soda often has a little over 100g of carbohydrates (at least by like, normal american purroportions) which is a nontrivial weight
