Mold Breaker is the funniest fucking ability conceptually because if you're a member of pokemon's target audience, playing on your Nintendo DS on the school bus, you don't know what the fuck your pokemon do. you didn't build your team, you're using them because they're your starter and the first the first five pokemon you happened to find on the ground. complete lack of mechanical awareness, no expectation to be subverted whatsoever. and when the coolest life form you've ever seen in your short life lands in front of you and the game makes a big show of going "Haxorus breaks the mold!", that's the opposite of information. all you're going to do is the fucking ralsei stare. "Okay."

@vaporeon_ @monorail not quite, it ignores (most*) Abilities that can make moves otherwise ineffective, e.g., allowing ground type moves to hit a.mon with Levitate

@aescling @monorail Makes me wonder why they made the text so unhelpful... It would've only cost a bunch of extra bytes to say something like "[Pokémon] breaks the mold! Vaporeon's Water Absorb is ineffective!"
Though to be fair, I also didn't understand what "the sunlight turned harsh" means without looking it up, but at least that makes sense after looking it up. Water-type moves are weakened by harsh sunlight because, I assume, the sun evaporates the water. I have no idea what a mold is and why breaking it makes my ability ineffective...
@vaporeon_ @monorail if you know what “break the mold” means it at least makes some level of sense when you look up what the Ability does
in general Pokémon seems to purrefur to not explicitly lay out what Abilities like that do, i guess to give the player the oppurrtunity to feel like they discovered something by fucking around and finding out? like they don’t explain what the terrain effects do and those are very nonobvious also
