Stupid question: I thought that PeerTube is also ActivityPub and that therefore it should be possible for me to subscribe to a PeerTube channel from my Mastodon account.
But I just tried with this channel (not an endorsement, I haven't seen the videos yet, I was just curious about interop between Mastodon and PeerTube), tried copying its ID and pasting it into the Mastodon search field on here, and it just gives 404...
Is it simply because we're not federating with them, or is it some sort of software issue because of them running PeerTube?
@vaporeon_ weird
@vaporeon_ i can search fur @/johnny_blanchard@makertube.net and find an account from here; i’m not sure exactly what the behavior of following it is
@aescling But can you find the channel, the @ reeenthused@makertube.net ?
Just to see whether it's possible to see a channel, as opposed to a user, on your instance or not...
Ignore the "following" part, the issue was that I couldn't follow it because I couldn't see it from this instance at all...
@vaporeon_ oh i misunderstood the issue. yeah i can’t find the channel either by searching
@aescling This is rather annoying, I wonder why the decision was made like that, whether it's a limitation of ActivityPub or whether they simply didn't think about it or whether they decided on purpose to make it this way...
@aescling Yeah... As another test, this guy https://makertube.net/a/johnny_blanchard/video-channels runs this channel https://makertube.net/c/reenthused/videos , I can paste
@johnny_blanchard@makertube.net(the user) into the search box and find their account, but@reenthused@makertube.net(one of the channels) results in 404...(Does this happen on your instance, too?)
