There is something deeply ironic about Bruce Wayne saying in Batman Begins that he is going to create Batman because a symbol can't be corrupted and then the direct impact of that movie and its sequels being a near-total corruption of who and what Batman is in the public consciousness

The belief that symbols can't be corrupted also feels like it speaks to the neoliberal-at-best (and fascist at worst) belief that things can only ever be what they are and never change in substance, form, or meaning

Which, you know, goes along with all the other neoliberal-at-best-fascist-at-worst messaging those movies have
