Now I want to build a floppy disk RAID

Obviously I don't have money for that

But it's fun to think about how it would be done

A problem that I have with my USB floppy disk drive is that I can't use it to scan for bad sectors and add them to the bad sectors list and then never touch these sectors again
Because unlike a floppy disk drive with a normal connection (Shugart? Is it also called Shugart if it's for 3.5-inch floppies?) it keeps retrying and retrying and retrying to read the bad sector and never finishes

So ideally, I'd use something that isn't USB

But most motherboards only have 1 floppy connector... So how to connect many floppy disk drives?

But if you wanted to build a RAID with e.g. 64 floppies, that'd still need 16 motherboards even if each of them has 4 floppy connectors, and that's too many...

:blobcatthinking: Are there PCI cards that add more floppy connectors?

@vaporeon_ do your computers have usb connections? you could use floppy disk readers with usb connections and a big-ass powered usb hub if so

@aescling They do (how many, depends on the computer, but there are 4 on my older x86 PC and lots and lots (too lazy to pull it out from under my desk turn it around and count the USBs on the back) on my modern x86_64 PC

@aescling I just noticed that I forgot to write down part of a sentence in the linked post, guess my brain is really not working tonight, do re-read the linked post
