our very superficial understanding of X11 vs. Wayland:
1. Moving pixels on X11 requires some shenanigans that Wayland removes, reducing lag.
2. There's a risk in X11 that malicious programs might be able to spy into the windows of other programs in X11 - Wayland makes that much harder.
3. But the security benefits break some features that X11 programs can do, which causes problems for some users.
4. Wayland also still kinda needed some more polish when it was launched, although that was a while ago so it's probably improved.
5. X11 is a bit of a Rube Goldberg machine but it's pretty well tested and stable.
Definitely tradeoffs both ways, which I think makes it an interesting social media poll.
