the coolest thing i learned from Every Frame A Painting is that "a good fight scene isn't about the attacks that connect, it's about the ones that don't"

they showed two scenes that were conceptually similar, but one of them was just two guys beating the hell out of each other and the other involved a lot of blocks and dodges. and the second was way more engaging

any one-sentence analysis like this is of course reductive. but even as a reductive thing to say, i think there's likely some truth to it in general and i thought it was really interesting
