vegan food cooking, 🤞🏽

attempting our first kneaded loaf of bread using marystestkitchen.com/perfect-v as a recipe

dunno if we did it right but kneading turned out to be less stressful or strenuous than we feared, and we have a ... taut? ball of dough currently in an oiled bowl for its rise

- 🐱 ?

(used straight coconut oil as our butter substitute)

vegan food cooking update

gave it an hour to rise - not sure how to judge if it doubled, but it definitely got bigger

divided into loaves and put on a baking sheet for final rise and then baking

vegan food cooking update 2 (tupdate)

oooo - these are a lot softer than the no-knead loaves have been

interested to see how they are to eat!

vegan food cooking update 3: tasting

It's sweet! And soft, and interesting! Dips well into some soup.

realization re: vegan food cooking update 3: tasting

oh right: if you use coconut oil to make a loaf of bread, it's going to taste coconutty

...I don't hate this. It's desserty, which we weren't expecting, but that doesn't make it inedible

@packbat avacado oil tastes surprisingly buttery if you want that flavor

olive oil is very nice in some contexts; i’m a fan of the result

wonder if nut oils would be interesting in bread?

re: realization re: vegan food cooking update 3: tasting

@aescling *nods!*

I bet nut oils would be interesting - we might go ahead and try olive oil next just because we have it, but maybe we'll get some avocado oil sometime

@packbat just note that avacado oil is relatively expensive tho
