Writing #AltText can be a challenge! A few days ago, one of our volunteers wrote alt text describing the yellow ribbon in the #BannedBooksWeek logo as resembling "the yellow police tape that police put up around places the public isn't allowed to go". Another volunteer disagrees, and says that the alt text should have described a book that's been gift-wrapped in ribbon. So, it's #poll time! Which interpretation is correct? Boosts welcome.

@DCBookstoPrisons i mean i think what i interpret it as is less important than what your intent for sharing the image is? are you trying to evoke the feeling of police tape or ribbons?

@Satsuma The thing that makes this tricky is that we didn't create the image. It's copied from www.bannedbooksweek.org where the alt text simply says "Banned Books Week". Personally, I see police tape, but my fellow volunteer doesn't.

@DCBookstoPrisons It strikes me as hard to write alt text for. (The police tape interpretation stood out to me but to be honest I'm not sure whether I would have seen it that way if I hadn't read the mention of police tape first). Maybe I'd just go for a simple description at the risk of missing some of the (arguable) nuance. @Satsuma
