What is up with the fanfic trope of "wait... we hang out 1 on 1 in public, talk and do stuff we enjoy together... We're not just friends we've been dating all this time!" What are you people doing with your friends ????? Staring at them hatefully from a distance???????

@villainousfriend @goldgust I mean, as a grey-sexual poly person I’m highly on board with dating my friends, it’s my usual go-to move for finding a partner. But like. Not ALL of the ones I hang out with surely? I’ve lived with a lot of them I’m definitely not into at all too, even if I like hanging out with them one on one! Friendships need maintaining with mutual outings and care and adventures too, surely characters can be allowed to just be friends too??
(Unless it’s one of my favorite canon ships in which case no they have to be together damnit! It’s the law of the universe!! But non-canon ships should be able to just be good friends sometimes, yeesh!)

The context for my original post was me reading fanfics about my otp who are already besties, of course I want them to get together but not by invalidating their bestie-ism!!

especially since like, even if you *are* unusually date like in your behaviors with this one person…surely its still not dating if you haven’t actually talked to then about it? isn’t the whole “mutual agreement on your expectations re:this relationship and eachothers behavior as it pertains to said relationship” what defines dating???
