i don’t think the INTENDED purpose of the WCAG AA accessibility requirements was to funnel millions of dollars to OpenAI and Anthropic…… and yet…

@gaditb american universities right now are all required to meet WCAG AA accessibility requirements (as of a May 11 deadline i believe), which naturally includes supplying alt text for images

american universities have digital collections consisting of hundreds of thousands of images which do not have alt text. the only possible avenue many of them have for meeting this deadline has been to turn to A·I tools for describing images, usually Claude or Gemini or ChatGPT
