#jitd btw i have to assume the name changes were to try to make it harder for the state censors to figure out that this is adapted from danmei but the names were changed so slightly that i feel like they might as well not have bothered. it's like
fei du ➡️ pei su
luo wenzhou ➡️ luo weizhao
tao ran ➡️ tao ze
lang qiao ➡️ lan qiao
xiao haiyang ➡️ xiao hanyang
etc.
also priest's name is the first thing you see in the opening credits of every episode, so...
#jitd YAAAAA IT'S THE BOY (LUO YIGUO) (THAT'S THE CAT'S NAME) (IN THE BOOK AT LEAST IDK WHAT HIS NAME IS IN THE DRAMA)
#jitd omg fei du's wounded puppy look after this. really not sure what the heterosexual explanation for that was supposed to be
#jitd the main way the drama made the story sci-fi is by introducing this concept of "apaths" or people with "zero-degree empathy" (depending on which subs you're watching with) who were created by a radioactive storm and have, you guessed it, no empathy. it really just literalizes some of the noir elements of the book - organized crime, abuses of power, people acting monstrous, etc. so in terms of storytelling expediency, i do get it. but every time fei du goes "i have empathy deficiency disorder, remember?" i lose my shit. SHUT UP LOSERRRRRRR
#jitd you have to understand btw that i love fei du. he's so funny. this is "SHUT UP LOSERRRRRRR" (disgustingly affectionate)
#jitd the actor playing fei du in this show is really astonishingly good at conveying face journeys
#jitd lsakjdf;alsdkf every time we see fei du flirting with girls i'm like YAYYYY BISEXUALITY YAYYYYYYYYY
@rigormorphis agreed! also the scene where he hits on lwz’s mom and then has to frantically backtrack is just objectively peak comedy gold
@Satsuma yesssss I love that scene so much
@rigormorphis the disaster bi representation we deserve
